PROGRAMME

How to market category-defying artistic work?
July 6, from 14:30 to 16:30

What are the challenges for venues and festivals presenting contemporary circus, physical theatre or live art? One of them is to market these category-defying artistic works: How to reach out to audiences? What could be the strategies to present contemporary works that don’t fit existing labels (theatre, dance, music…)? How to establish long-term relationship with the public today?

Throughout the conference, participants exchanged ideas, discussing successes and failures with venue and festival marketing and communication professionals as well as programmers.

Moderator:
Yohann Floch, President of FACE
Speakers:
Mary Rose Lloyd, Director of Artistic Programming at The New Victory Theater, USA
Eric Joly, Director of Communications at TOHU, Canada
Jackie Friend, Marketing and Audience Development Manager at Crying Out Loud, UK

Venue: The Festival’s Headquarters (330 Emery Street)

Touring networks for contemporary performing arts
July 7, from 10:00 to 12:00

Many players in the performing arts field have been developing touring projects, sharing artistic programming in their region, also sharing resources from funding bodies. The artistic companies, especially when touring overseas, advocate for conversations among presenters to happen, and for articulated opportunities. It seems there is a clear need for more collaboration and the contemporary circus & physical theatre field is a little behind other industries (jazz, dance…).

What are the successful examples of touring networks that could inspire us? What “tools” could be put into place to support the circulation of artistic works? During this session, participants reflected on successful networks, exchange ideas on potential connections, and explore the conditions required to make touring circuits for contemporary circus & physical theatre a reality.

Moderator:
Yohann Floch, President of FACE
Speakers:
Elizabeth Espen, Program Coordinator for the National Dance Project, NEFA, USA
Michelle Grove, Program Officer for the Mid Atlantic Tours, USA
Elodie Peltier, Freelance Programmer & Producer, UK

Venue: The Festival’s Headquarters (330 Emery Street)
