Interim AAA publications – Access, Advocacy and Active Inclusion

Throughout the AAA project, supported by the Erasmus+ programme, partners shared interim publications with stakeholders in education and culture to gather input and feedback. These materials served as discussion tools, enabling professionals to further shape the content. The resources were designed for arts and cultural professionals and organisations aiming to transform the sector by amplifying the voices, skills, talent, and ambition of artists and cultural workers with migration backgrounds—whether they have relocated from abroad or have other migration experiences.

TOWARDS SYSTEMIC CHANGE: DIVERSITY TRAINING MODULE FOR CULTURAL LEADERS

This practical and reflective blueprint has been meticulously designed to support arts and culture professionals who are committed to building a more equitable and inclusive sector.

This training module was created in response to a growing awareness across Europe that diversity must transcend being merely a surface-level ambition; it must become a systemic practice. While many cultural leaders acknowledge the importance of inclusion, translating these intentions into tangible actions remains a significant challenge. Artists and culture professionals with migration backgrounds continue to encounter barriers in accessing opportunities, resources, and recognition. This training aims to address those barriers and provides actionable tools for dismantling them.

At the core of this training is a comprehensive checklist, designed to assist organisations in assessing their current practices and identifying concrete steps for progress. Divided into foundational and advanced actions, the checklist allows institutions of all sizes and capacities to embark on their inclusion journey or deepen their existing commitment to equity. It is not intended as a one-time tool but as a living resource to guide reflection, track impact, and foster accountability.

Developed through cross-border collaboration and informed by extensive research, surveys, and lived experiences, this module offers more than recommendations—it offers a roadmap. Whether you are starting from scratch or building on existing work, you are invited to explore, adapt, and utilise this guide to shape long-term change within your organisation and community.

AAA GUIDE TO ACTIVE INCLUSION IN THE EUROPEAN ARTS AND CULTURE SECTOR

The AAA Guide to Active Inclusion in the European Arts and Culture Sector aims to improve the way in which arts and culture organisations and actors engage with artists who have moved to a destination from abroad. It is a practical tool aimed at cultural organisations and institutions, whichever field of culture or geographical area they cover that will allow organisations and individuals to better engage with this underrepresented group and tap into and benefit from their hidden talents while contributing to a more inclusive society.

The guide reflects the learnings and takeaways from study visits in Helsinki, Paris and Copenhagen that were organised in the context of the AAA project. It also suggests a series of instrumental questions any arts and culture player should have in mind when embarking on a journey to improve their relationships with artists and culture professionals with a migration background. In addition to the guide, the partners of the project, IMMART, Globe Art Point and FACE, are prototyping both a transnational inclusion training module for cultural leaders and industry gatekeepers and a mentoring programme targeting artists and culture professionals with a migration background.

AAA MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME BLUEPRINT FOR FOREIGN-BORN CREATIVES

This Mentorship Programme Blueprint is the result of a three-part action-based research process. First, we analysed and reflected on data collected during study visits in Finland, France, and Denmark. Next, we engaged in targeted discussions with industry experts specialising in mentorship programmes for foreign nationals, universal design, and integration. Finally, we designed and implemented an AAA Mentorship Programme Trial, drawing on insights from the first two stages. This trial allowed us to test our findings and gather further input for the blueprint from both mentors and mentees involved in the programme.
